87-Year Old New Hampshire State Representative Says She Will Not Eat and Is Willing to Die for Impeachment
By Susan Serpa
I just got off the phone with Betty Hall. She is the 14-term State of N.H. representative who has introduced to the state house HR 24 to impeach Bush and Cheney. The public Hearing for the resolution is next Tuesday Feb. 19th (the day after President's day).
She is joining the Code Pink fast.
She is 87 years old and refuses to eat again until Conyers begins impeachment proceedings. She told me "I've had a good life. I can't think of any better way to end it."
Now, before you think I am heartless by "encouraging" this act by announcing it, I know Betty. When she decides to do something, there is no changing her mind - she's going to do it. She will not eat until impeachment proceedings begin in earnest. We owe it to her to make this worth her while. It's time to pull out ALL the stops and get Conyer's ass into gear! We cannot let this clear-headed, heroic woman sacrifice herself.

It amazes me when I hear or read people making comments such as this. This woman - Rep. Betty Hall - is willing to make the ultimate personal sacrifice for high principle, and some people think it's lunacy. Do they think it's lunacy because there's nothing they themselves would ever sacrifice their life for? Or do they think it's lunacy because they can't see any reasons to think that impeachment is warranted?
In either case, there is a serious problem. It is interesting that people like the chicken hawks who make up this White House and many of its most fervent supporters think that personal sacrifice is crazy because their worldview is so selfish. Or, if that's not where my poster is coming from, and he thinks impeachment is not warranted, I wonder what planet he's been living on lately. If launching wars based on hundreds of conscious lies and killing more than a million people is not by itself grounds, let alone the scores of other egregious offenses such as using torture aren't enough, then you have to wonder what, if anything, would wake somebody like this up.
